Two trains have collided in Mountain View, northeast of Pretoria, with an unconfirmed amount of injuries and two deaths reported.
Two locomotives collided on Tuesday morning in the Pretoria area of Mountainview, EWN reports.
The train was reportedly carrying 800 passengers. Two people have been reported to have been killed so far and hundreds are believed to be injured.
“I can confirm that there is a train collision in Mountain View and a number of commuters are injured. We have one fatality confirmed by the EMS,” Metrorail spokesperson Lillian Mofokeng told News24.
Jacaranda News has since reported a second fatality.
“Paramedics are treating scores of injured passengers at the Mountain View train station in Pretoria. Others have been rushed to hospitals,” Yusuf Abramjee reported on Twitter.
