There was a fatality at Bikita Minerals in Bikita on Thursday when Kudzai Manjonjo (29) of Masema area in Gutu had his head split into two by a conveyor belt.
Manjonjo who was off-duty was called to work to attend to a conveyor belt that was causing problems. He was hit by the belt in the head just after he had adjusted it.
Bikita Minerals Public Relations Consultant Precious Chipati said they released a press statement about the matter and the family to express mine’s sincere condolences.
Police spokesperson Chief Inspector Charity Mazula confirmed the incident.
Manjonjo had worked at the mine for six-and-half years after being promoted to an assistant fitter in the engineering department from a security guard.
It is said when the conveyer belt started moving there was a stone which fell on the tail pulley and Manjonjo tried to pick it up and then his head was smashed by the belt into two pieces.
Manjonjo was buried at his rural home in Gutu on Saturday last week.
