It was on New Year’s Day and spirits were high, but for a Mberengwa man it all ended nastily after he was killed for kissing a woman in front of her brother.
It seems the now deceased Dorman Sibanda (25) crossed the red line when he kissed Sifelumusa Sibanda’s sister in his full view.
It never went down with Sifelumusa (28) who took it as a sign of disrespect arguing that it was taboo.
A misunderstanding then erupted between the two.
The fuming man reportedly drew an okapi knife and stabbed Dorman who died the following day.
Sifelumusa was arrested on a murder charge and he appeared before Mberengwa magistrate Shepherd Mjanja.
He was remanded in custody to 17 January and advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
The court heard that on 1 January, the now deceased was in the company of Sifelumusa and other friends celebrating New Year and drinking beer at a certain homestead.
When Sifelumusa’s sister was passing by, Dorman moved to greet her and he then kissed her before letting her continue with her journey.
Little did he know that by kissing the woman in public and in front of her brother, he had pressed the wrong button.
Sifelumusa then told him that his actions were unacceptable, but Dorman did not subscribe to his school of thought and dismissed his sentiments.
The two had a misunderstanding which then led to an exchange of blows and it is at that time when Sifelumusa drew a knife from his trousers and stabbed Dorman on the left side of his chest.
A report was made to police and he was swiftly rushed to Filabusi hospital, he was referred him to United Bulawayo Hospitals where he died on 2 January.
