Itai Dzamara is out of the country: Cabinet Minister said

The MDC-T Youth Assembly has lashed out at Information Minister Jonathan Moyo for suggesting that 'abducted' journalist-cum-activist Itai Dzamara could have skipped the country in search of greener pastures.

In an interview with BBC Moyo suggested that Dzamara could have taken advantage of 'porous' borders to flee the country.

However, MDC-T Youth Assembly have taken great exception to Moyo's claims.

The youths today visited Dzamara's homestead, 71 days after he was reportedly abducted by suspected security agents.

Said Lovemore Chinoputsa, Secretary General – MDC Youth Assembly: "We take great exception to the utterances by one Jonathan Moyo which insinuated that Dzamara could be one of those people who have fled the country for better fortunes".

"We call upon him to show some level of conscience and care. We wonder if he would he have uttered such words had his own son disappeared like that. We condemn such reckless and immoral political statements which will do nothing other than add salt to the injuries of the Dzamara family and all of Itai's friends," he said in a statement.

Chinoputsa said their mission was to commiserate and stand in solidarity with his family.

"We stand in solidarity with Dzamara, a youthful activist and journalist who has stood tall against the tyranny and brutality of Robert Mugabe and his government. We gather here today exactly 71days after Itai Dzamara was abducted by suspected security agents. We note with concern that the administration of Robert Mugabe has not done anything to ascertain the whereabouts of Itai Dzamara, despite a High Court order to that effect,".

"We call upon the government of Robert Mugabe to spare the Dzamara family the agony they are going through right now by returning Itai Dzamara to his young family. He deserves to look after his family".

Dzamara was allegedly abducted by suspected State security agents near his home in Glen View, Harare, on March 9 and his whereabouts have remained a mystery.

The High Court has since ordered police to investigate the matter and update his family every fortnight.

Two months ago, another controversial Zanu PF songowl, Energy Mutodi claimed that abducted democracy activist Itai Dzamara is hiding in neighbouring Botswana. READ MORE HERE: "Itai Dzamara hiding in Botswana"
