It was like opening a bale of old clothes when women from Chigara Resettlement in Chikomba looked for and identified their missing underwear in a bag belonging to a neighbour.
Lovemore Nhopi of Plot 73 Belver who is in his mid-sixties will appear at Chief Chivese’s Court on allegations of witchcraft after he was found with the bagful of underpants.
The pants included his daughter’s.
Chief Chivese confirmed the case to The Mirror.
“I have the report and am yet to set a trial date for the case. Villagers took the matter to the Police but were referred back to the traditional court,” he said.
Chigara Village development committee chairperson, Augustine Bhagu said the bag with underwear was kept at Chivhu Police Station and would be produced as exhibit at the chief‘s court.
Nhopi confirmed in an interview with The Mirror that a bag with women’s underwear was found at his home but he said he did not know how the pants got there.
“It’s true the underpants were found at my residence but they were in my son’s bedroom. I do not know how the underpants got there,” he said.
But his neighbours allege that Nhopi’s son, Emmerson who was away from home came back and found his satchel laden with female underwear.
“He inquired from his mother whose panties they were and a misunderstanding among family members arose and it attracted neighbours’ attention,” said Justice Munhapa.
The neighbours gathered and women identified their panties in the presence of their husbands.
The men whose wives had identified their underwear threatened to beat up Nhopi out of anger but were pacified by the chairperson, Bhagu.
