Pearl Nozipho Tafu, the second wife of the late International Pentecost Holiness Church (IPHC) leader Bishop Glayton Modise, is allegedly embroiled in an ugly sex video tiff with her stepson Tshepiso Modise.
Tshepiso, who is involved in a succession battle with his younger brother Leonard and Tafu, is alleged to have threatened to release a video clip depicting her having sex with another man, if she does not vacate his father's house and the church's headquarters – known as Silo – in Zuurbekom, south of Joburg.
These explosive tidbits are contained in a lawyer's bill amounting to R1.1-million, sent to Tafu by her alleged former legal advisor, advocate Malesela Daniel Teffo.
The bill, which contains a cost breakdown from December 2015 to April 2016, reads in part: "Investigations of the anonymous calls and threats of alleged pornographic materials/videos by Tshepo Modise against client (from) 19-02-2016 to 24-02-2016. Consulting & given mandate by client to investigate the anonymous callers and other threats by Mr Tshepiso (Tshepo) Modise from 19/02/2016 to 24/02/2014," reads the bill.
Tafu dismissed Teffo's claim that she hired him as her legal advisor to investigate Tshepiso's alleged threats to leak the video as untrue.
"Tshepiso has never threatened me with any porn video and that man was never my legal advisor. It's high time I took action against that man [Teffo]. He came to church and demanded an amount of over R1-million and said the church owes him, it is not true that anyone owes him. He even mentions the name of an attorney who was never my lawyer," she said. Tshepiso referred us to his lawyer, Emmanuel Lekgau.
Lekgau denied that Tshepiso threatened Tafu and said it was in fact he who obtained a protection order against her.
The matter, which was kept hushhush until this week, burst onto the public domain after Tafu allegedly refused to settle the bill after accusing Teffo of overcharging her.
She also accused him of lying about the identity of the attorney who instructed him to render Tafu the legal services.
Teffo mentioned Ephraim Noko as the attorney who gave him instructions to render legal services to Tafu as he is by law not allowed to have a direct dealing with a client.
Noko confirmed that he has seen the bill, but said he was not Tafu's attorney and could not have instructed Teffo to represent her.
"Why doesn't he send the bill to me, why is he sending the bill to the client. I think he breached the [code of] ethics if he was rendering legal services to this client without an attorney. He is mentioning me in the bill and that is not true," he said.
Noko confirmed that he attended some of the meetings with Tafu and Teffo but the porn videos was never discussed.
Teffo defended himself and denied all allegations against him, insisting that he rendered those services to Tafu and Noko was his attorney.
"If anyone thinks that I have violated the [code of] ethics, they can report me to the bar council. I have witnesses who can testify that I was her legal advisor. I only cut ties with her when she asked me to lie that Merriam, the first wife of the comforter, poisoned her husband. I refused to do that because I didn't have irrefutable evidence," he said.
