A man from Gutu who went overboard on the Shona culture that allows make-believe love relationships (chiramu) between brother-in-law and sister-in-law has been jailed for 15 years.
Admire Mashoko (23) of Clere Farm in Chatsworth was found guilty of rape by the regional magistrate Dambudzo Malunga last week after he forced his wife's 14-year-old sister into sex.
It was the State case led by Liberty Hove that on August 27, 2018 Mashoko and the complainant were coming from Karedzera’s homestead where they had gone to borrow some sacks.
Mashoko asked to fondle the complainant’s breasts and she refused. He then lifted her into a bush and laid her on the ground before raping her.
After the act Mashoko told the complainant not to disclose anything.
On August 28, 2018 the complainant informed her 13 year old cousin and her mother and a report was made to the Police. A medical report was compiled at Gutu Rural Hospital.
However, Mashoko pleaded not guilty and said it was a boy next door who raped her.
He was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.
