Man nearly killed as massive brawl erupts in bar over Stonyeni

NG’CELI Stonyeni, vele!

A gold panner from Esigodini was almost killed by fellow imbibers for asking the disc jockey to play Jah Signal’s signature hit Sweetie on repeat.

The incident happened in the early hours of last Sunday morning at a night club at Esigodini Business Centre.

It is alleged that other patrons lost their marbles after Ncube bragged at them saying since he was the one who was buying beer more than anyone else in the club, it was his “right” to decide which song should be played in the bar.

“In the process he was shouting obscenities at the top of his voice before some angry imbibers threw empty bottles towards him. In a fit of rage, the imbibers descended on Ncube and ruthlessly clobbered him.

“Had it not been for the timely intervention of the bouncers and some police officers who were on patrol, they were going to leave him for dead. In the melee the song (Sweetie) which he had instructed to be played continued to blare from the huge speakers as no one was brave enough to go anywhere near the stage to change the music,” said a witness who refused to be named for fear of victimisation.

A police source at Esigodini Police Station who confirmed the incident couldn’t however, furnish this publication with more details saying they didn’t do a follow-up on the matter after the victim opted to withdraw the charges against his assailants.

“Despite suffering severe facial injuries, the following day (Monday) he withdrew charges against his attackers saying it was probably his own fault,” said the police source.
