More than $200 000 was found in the car of a former Chivhu Police officer who was involved and killed in a head-on collision at the 76km peg along Masvingo–Chivhu Road on Monday last week.
The Mirror could not at the time of going to Press establish who the money belonged to but the vehicle, involved in the accident belonged to Philip Mutsambi, a cop formerly stationed at Chivhu but working in Guruve at the time of his death.
The accident was caused by an overtaking error and Officer Mutsambi died together with a woman who was a passenger in his car.
Mashonaland East police spokesperson Inspector Tendai Mwanza confirmed the accident which killed two people.
It is reported that $200 000 bond notes were recovered from Mutsambi’s car at the scene of the accident.
Mutsambi was driving towards Harare when he tried to overtake two vehicles.
Whilst he was overtaking, he saw an oncoming vehicle and tried to avoid a head-on collision by veering off to the right side of the road.
The oncoming motorist also veered off to his left side and the two motor vehicles had a head on collision on roadside. Mutsambi and his passenger died on post.
Two other people who were injured were rushed to Chivhu General Hospital.
