JUST IN: Late ZBC veteran broadcaster Judith Makwanya’s burial date set


A church service for the late ZBC veteran broadcaster, Judith Makwanya has been held at a local funeral parlour in Harare, with the fellow journalists describing her as a hardworking professional.

Makwanya has been in the newsroom for the past 29 years and she has touched many hearts not only at the national broadcaster where her absence is being greatly felt, but the entire nation.

Government officials and media practitioners came in numbers to attend a church service and body viewing ceremony in honour of the veteran broadcaster.

Makwanya’s colleagues described the late journalist as a hardworking person who loved her job with a passion and was always willing to mentor others.

Makwanya will be buried at the Warren Hills Cemetery in Harare tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade has sent a message of condolences to the Makwanya family.

In a statement, the ministry’s spokesperson, Mr Gideon Gapare said the Minister, Retired Lieutenant General Dr Sibusiso Moyo, the Secretary Ambassador James Manzou and the entire staff, learnt with profound grief, shock and sadness of the death of Makwanya.

He described Makwanya as a true patriot, who served her country with distinction.

“Judith Makwanya was a true patriot, accomplished and seasoned journalist whose dedicated service to her profession and country was unquestionable. As the ZBC Diplomatic Correspondent, Makwanya was the Ministry’s focal point and diligently handled most of the Ministry’s press and media requirements including coverage of the Minister’d interviews….she was a humble and yet capable communicator who livened the ZBC presentations both at home and abroad, while covering presidential visits,” Mr Gapare said.

He urged the family to take strength, courage and solace in that their loss is shared by the entire media fraternity and the nation at large.
