A hard-bitten, Kuwadzana man who grabbed headlines a few weeks ago after deserting his blind wife and marrying his curvy tenant appeared in court yesterday charged with bigamy.
It is reported that John Chadzoka who is customarily married to Naume Gokoko, had been happily married since 2009 until 2017 when Charity Tembo moved into their matrimonial home in Kuwadzana.
Chadzoka and Gokoko who are currently on self-imposed separation, are reported to have started having marital problems after Tembo had moved in into their home.
According to the local tabloid, H-Metro, on March 12 at around 8 a.m, Chadzoka went to Harare Magistrates court along with Tembo, where they registered their marriage without Gokoko’s knowledge.
The matter only came to light after Gokoko hauled Chadzoka to court for unlawfully entering into monogamous marriage with Tembo although being still customarily married to her.
Gokoko told the court that she was still married to Chadzoka, although he was denying it. Gokoko claimed she visited the church on a Sunday after the two married and upon her arrival, she noticed Chadzoka together with Tembo and they ran away when she wanted to greet them.
In mitigation, Chadzoka told the court that he only went on to marry another woman because the complainant was taken away from him by her parents along with her belongings and claimed that he had never paid any bride price for Gokoko.
Appearing before Harare magistrate Richard Ramaboa facing charges of bigamy, Chadzoka pleaded not guilty
Chadzoka was granted $100 bail and he will be back in court on April 15 for trial.
