OPPOSITION politician Tinashe Jonas is finally out of remand prison after the High Court of Zimbabwe granted him bail.
The High Court on Wednesday morning ruled that Jonas, the leader of Ideal Zimbabwe party, be freed upon payment of RTGS$500 bail.
Jonas had been in prison since 12 March after he was detained for undermining authority of or insulting President Mnangagwa.
Jonas got into trouble after he claimed that President Emmerson Mnangagwa was bedding Information Minister, Monica Mutsvangwa, and challenged the Zanu PF leader to prove him wrong.
He, according to the state, accused the President of infidelity and having a child with war veterans leader Christopher Mutsvangwa’s wife.
Jonas argued that charges brought against him did not constitute any crime.
Prosecutors had opposed bail arguing that Jonas was a flight risk since he doesn’t have a valid passport. It was argued that the opposition leader sneaked into Zimbabwe after committing the crime in South Africa.
It was the State’s contention that Jonas is of no fixed aboard since he gave different addresses. According to the State, Jonas undermined the President’s authority during an interview he had with a South African television station.
