The number of people who died in the Gweru commuter omnibus and bus head-on crash has risen to 11 after one of the victims died on admission at Gweru Central Hospital.
Ten people died on the spot.
The accident occurred last night when a commuter omnibus collided with a bus just after the first tollgate outside Gweru along the Harare highway.
According to some eyewitnesses, those who were travelling in the commuter omnibus were family, friends and relatives who were coming from a funeral in Masvingo.
The bus driver is said to have lost control in the process, with the bus hitting a tree and overturning.
Those who were travelling in the bus accused the driver of speeding as he was said to be competing for passengers with another bus travelling in the same direction.
Stakeholders in the transport sector have repeatedly warned drivers to avoid speeding and negligent driving to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.
The kombi driver is said to have tried to overtake some vehicles in the convoy he was part of from the funeral, resulting in a collision with an oncoming bus which was also trying to overtake at a sharp curve.
