ZNA soldier and 2 security guards in trouble after stealing Cyclone Idai donations

Two security guards at Gutu District Administrator’s offices and a ZNA soldier with 4.2 Infantry Battalion have appeared at Gutu Magistrates court facing charges of stealing groceries donated to victims of Cyclone Idai.

Albert Mazorodze (29) of Hwiru at Mpandawana, Mellusi Mpofu (41) of Mahachi Village who both are security guards at the DA’s offices and Moses Tapiwanashe Nkumbula (25) a soldier at 4.2 Battalion were arrested over the case.

On April 4, 2019 at around 4pm the two guards went to work and allegedly stole groceries that include tinned beans, 2 green soap bars, 2 litres of cooking oil which they put in a bag.

On April 5, 2019 at around 4am Mazorodze and Mpofu finished work and they took a bag which was packed with groceries.

On their way home they met Ngonidzashe Madeshiri who is also a security guard. He saw the two carrying a bag and asked them to open it but they refused.

Madeshiri then called the Police and Mazorodze and Mpofu were allegedly caught with the goods valued at $200.

The case will be heard in court again on Monday.
