Barely two months after dozens of Zimbabwean nationals died at the Durban Deep Mine in Roodeport South Africa, live reports coming from the mine are that at least 2 Zimbabweans have been shot dead by fellow Lesotho illegal gold miners.
Reports from the mine are that as of mid day yesterday (June 4), Zimbabweans and Lesotho nationals – all illegal miners at the mine – were in a bloody shoot out which resulted in the death of at least 2 Zimbabweans.
A couple of months ago scores of Zimbabweans were found dead from the mine amidst what witnesses on the ground claimed were a result of mining wars underground which authorities refused to confirm but attributed the deaths to a gas explosion underground. However, eye witnesses who came out of the mine alive claimed that the deaths were due to illegal miners' wars that were taking place underground.
According to sources from the mine, close to 20 South African Police Services vehicles are on site and a number of miners have been arrested and sent to nearby Lindela Refugee Repatriation Centre. Further reports are that the alleged killers have escaped from the mine and have not been caught but police are on a manhunt for them.
