A Chiredzi traditional healer, Jonathan Muusha aka sekuru Mupamombe told members of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee two weeks ago that commercial sex workers are one of their biggest groups of clients with members coming for various services to do with their profession.
The committee which was in Chiredzi to hear public views on women’s rights and reproductive health especially from commercial sex workers heard that sex workers were making a beehive at n’angas to buy vagina tightening herbs, herbs that makes vagina sweet during sex, herbs that widen openings of vaginas that are too small, herbs that chase away bad spirits or help attract clients.
There are also herbs to help the sex workers recover money from cheating clients.
Sekuru Mupamombe who represented the Traditional Medical Practitioners Council paid tribute to sex workers present during the meeting attended by MPs Misheck Mato, Brian Dube and Larbode Toffa for being clients for members of his organisation.
“As traditional healers we respect our sisters who are commercial sex workers because they give us a lot of business. We therefore are happy that Parliament is here to find ways of improving their welfare,” he said.
Sekuru Mupamombe added that his members also treat sex workers for STls.
Forty commercial sex workers attended the Chiredzi meeting and some of the issues they raised include the need to legalise abortion, the dangers they face from backyard abortions and the harassment they face from the cops.
