A Gweru woman has shocked the local community after she defended her husband who brutally raped her disabled six-year-old daughter in a suspected ritual practice.
While in the animal kingdom, it is a natural instinct for a mother to fight in defence of her fruit of the womb, it is not so for a Gweru woman who appears to be taking sides with a perpetrator of rape against her child- all in the name of protecting a marriage.
The six-year-old girl, who was disabled from birth but had slightly improved due to physiotherapy at Mpilo Hospital in Bulawayo, was allegedly raped by her HIV positive father in the presence of the mother.
It alleged the rape could have been for ritual purposes.
The girl had been staying with her grandmother since she was seven months old, but on the fateful day, the mother took her, saying her father wanted to see his daughter.
The rape incident only came to light when the girl’s grandmother was bathing her.
The girl’s mother however insists her husband is innocent.
The News crew tracked the woman to the outskirts of Gweru.
She defended her husband saying he could not have committed such a crime.
The grandmother is however worried not only about the six-year-old as she claims her other grandchildren have mysteriously disappeared with no satisfactory answer coming from the woman, who is her daughter.
Sadly for the girl, her grandmother has run out of money to continue taking her for physiotherapy in Bulawayo.
Meanwhile, the alleged perpetrator of the rape, who is in remand prison, is expected to appear in court next week.
