A mentally challenged man only identified as Clever has been terrorizing women in Masvingo, heavily battering them without warning and there are fears that someone could end up being killed if the man is not removed from the city’s streets.
Clever who is believed to be from Zaka never attacks men but the number of women that he attacks almost on a daily basis is increasing. He does not warn his victims as he suddenly turns and throws vicious flying kicks or fists at them.
Police spokesperson Chief Inspector Charity Mazula said they are going to make investigations and take action.
Sibongile Zinduru a newspaper vendor at Belmont Press in the CBD told The Mirror that what is more dangerous about Clever is that he attacks without warning. She said his kicks are so vicious that some women fall down and are hardly able to walk after the attack.
Zinduru also said that if Clever misses his target, he becomes so angry that he goes around kicking parked cars.
“The police should do something to remove this man from the town because he is threatening people and at the same time damaging businesspeople’s properties, for instance he grabbed Tavengwa Maswera’s daughter last year.
Kerina Muzati, a visually impaired beggar said her little daughters were once attacked by Clever and all she could do was call out for help as they cried in pain.
“My daughters were grabbed thrice by the man and as a visually challenged person there was nothing I could do expect calling out for help from passers-by,” said Muzati.
Tariro Shokwe said the areas around Hofmeyer Street are sometimes no go areas for women.
