The MDC elections have ushered in a new leadership with some of the bigwigs losing their positions in the formation.
Some of the biggest losers of the MDC elective congress are former secretary general Douglas Mwonzora who was trounced by Charlton Hwende and former vice president Elias Mudzuri who was conspicuous by his absence throughout the congress.
Another big shot to lose in the elections was Tapiwa Mashakada who lost the treasurer general position to David Coltart while former youth assembly chairman Happymore Chidziva lost the deputy chairperson’s position to Job Sikhala.
Addressing supporters after the announcement of results, MDC president Mr Nelson Chamisa took a dig at Mwonzora for deserting the congress venue in a huff saying there were no winners or losers in these elections.
“This young man Bvondo is the future of our party, you have outdone me young man. You did what I failed to do in 2014 when I was beaten by Mwonzora. I ran away after results were announced and this is exactly what Mwonzora did after the announcement of results. In this election there is no winners and losers as we will redeploy those who lost,” he said.
The new vice presidents of the formation are Tendai Biti, Welshman Ncube and Linnet Kairenyi Kore while Thabitha Khumalo assumes the chairperson position.
The women’s assembly has a new executive led by Paurina Mupariwa.
