Harare West Member of the House of Assembly, Joana Ruvimbo Mamombe (MDC Alliance) has reportedly been arrested and detained at Harare Central Police.
The state security authorities have of late effected a series of arrests of human rights activists who were coming from a workshop in the Maldives.
They are being charged with plotting violent demonstrations with the intention to illegally unseat the government of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
While the charge or nature of arrest of Mamombe was yet to be ascertained at the time of publishing, Mamombe was arrested a few months back while she was on Parliament business in Nyanga. She was subsequently charged with treason.
Her latest arrest was confirmed by journalist Hopewell Chin’ono who wrote: “Harare West MP Joana Mamombe arrested and detained at Harare Central Police. The MDC should not be tempted to react with any action except legal.
“This failing government wants exactly that. These arrests of opposition and civil society are further exposing the government for what it is!
“They should allow the system to expose itself more to the outside world whilst the MDC engages the rural folk and educate them about the political and economic realities,” Chin’ono wrote.
