Chiredzi pharmacist Angeline Mahwire (51) has dragged her 30-year-old boyfriend to court on allegations that he poured sugar into her car’s engine with the intention of damaging the vehicle.
Mahwire has a pharmacy in Tshovani. Khumbula faces malicious damage to property charges.
The court was told that the two dated from 2011 to 2016 and on June 4, last year Mahwire gave the accused her car to go and look for a technician to fix the air conditioner at her office.
The accused brought back the car and Mahwire left for Checheche and she heard weird sounds from the engine but proceeded to her destination.
The following morning she returned to Chiredzi and the sound continued and it was smoking badly.
“The following morning I came back to Chiredzi and the sounds continued. I called my boyfriend Thabani Ndlovu who came with a mechanic who then checked the car only to find sugar in the engine,” said Mahwire.
Mahwire said Khumbula was not happy to see her new lover driving her cars. The accused denied the allegations. The damaged engine has been valued at US$6 000. The case was postponed to June 19.
