MDC leader Nelson Chamisa has made key appointments following a National Council meeting held at the party headquarters in Harare Wednesday afternoon.
Jacob Mafume has been removed from MDC spokesperson and is now the Secretary for Elections, a newly created role in the party.
Chamisa has also appointed lawyer and Hwange MP Daniel Molokele as the new MDC spokesperson. Molokele lost in the race for Secretary-General to Chalton Hwende.
Other key appointments are as follows:-
Organising Secretary: Amos Chibaya (Chibaya has been retained in this position he held before the May Congress.)
Deputy Organising Secretary: Sibusisiwe Bhudha Masara and Happymore Chidziva. (Chidziva campaigned for the position of deputy chairperson and lost at Congress to Job Sikhala).
Deputy Treasurer: Murisi Zwizwai
Spokesperson: Daniel Molokele
Deputy Spokesperson: Luke Tamborinyoka (Tamborinyoka was spokesperson for MDC founding President Morgan Tsvangirai at the time of Tsvangirai’s death in February 2018).
Secretary for Elections: Jacob Mafume (Mafume has been removed from MDC spokesperson position ). Mafume is deputised by Ellen Shiriyedenga.
Meanwhile, Nelson Chamisa has also created new portfolios and made the following appointments.
Secretary for Planning in the President’s Office: Morgen Komichi. (Komichi campaigned and lost at Congress for the position of MDC vice president to Tendai Buti and Welshman Ncube).
Komichi is deputised by Lillian Timveous.
Secretary for Local Government: Elias Mudzuri. He is deputised by Clifford Hlatshwayo.
Secretary for International Relations: Gladys Hlatshwayo
Deputy Secretary for International Relations: Douglas Mwonzora, who pulled out of contesting Nelson Chamisa for party presidency citing unfair electoral playing field and violence against his colleagues.
Secretary for Research & Policy: Dr. Tapiwa Mashakada. He is deputised by Miriam Mushayi.
James Timba and Concilia Chinanzvavana are co-deputy Secretary-Generals to Chalton Hwende.
