ALL he wanted was to take his bootilycious girlfriend on a special date.
But what was meant to be an evening of laughter and fun turned into a nightmare.
A fight broke out at a tavern on Sunday, and Thembile April (25) from Kgotsong kasi in Bothaville, Free State, was stabbed in the neck and died.
Thembile’s girlfriend was still in shock and couldn’t talk about what had happened.
The dead man’s friend Andile Theme said: “I was surprised to hear Thembile had gone to the tavern. He usually buys beers and drinks at home.”
Andile said he got a call that Thembile had been stabbed.
“I rushed to the scene, but when I got there he was already dead,” said Andile.
“I learnt that he was stabbed after getting into a fight over his girlfriend.
“She was dressed in a miniskirt and the men wanted to talk to her.
“He got into a fight with one of the men, who stabbed him.”
Police spokesman Captain Stephen Thakeng confirmed that a fight had broken out at a tavern in Kgotsong
He said Thembile had died at the scene.
“Apparently, the fight was over a girlfriend,” said Thakeng.
“The suspect (26) fled the scene after the incident.
“But he was later arrested and he’ll appear in the Bothaville Magistrates Court soon.”
