A staunch supporter of the opposition MDC was reportedly killed by unidentified people in Mutasa, Manicaland.
MDC Mutasa central MP Trevor Saruwaka told the Daily News that, Maxwell Gwechekweche, was killed on his way home on Monday evening.
Saruwaka suspects that Gwechekweche was killed by political enemies.
“This is a case where if one adds one and one gets an answer pointing at political execution… I hope the police are going to leave no stone unturned in their search for Maxwell’s murderers.
“Maxwell was last seen at Chidokohori bar where he was drinking till evening.
“He was loudly boasting about being an MDC member, challenging CIOs and soldiers that he was untouchable, that they could do nothing to him.”
The local MP also said that the deceased was found groaning in pain around midnight along a path on a hill adjacent to the business centre. The police, who reportedly have a station about two kilometres from the incident scene, were informed and allegedly arrived two hours later.
Saruwaka added that Gwechekweche died at Bonda Hospital where he had been ferried for medication.
