In a chilling case of murder, a man from Mucheke A in Masvingo has been arraigned before the courts after he allegedly killed a fellow tenant’s two-year-old son before cutting off his hands from the wrists.
Darlington Magomana (39) appeared before Masvingo magistrate, Candice Kaseke on Saturday for initial remand and will be back in court on August 14, 2019.
The State alleges that the deceased Nyasha Mukulani was playing at a fire place under the guardianship of Justice Mupani (28) and Julius Chanakira.
Magomana allegedly took the child claiming that he was going to collect his money from Mrs Chivasa who is a neighbor. The child’s mother, Jeslin Vengai (32) returned home at around 8pm and when she did not find her child, she started looking for him.
Vengai teamed up with other tenants and looked for the boy all over to no avail. They later saw Magomana at 12 midnight walking alone and he tried to run away but they chased and caught him. He was taken to Chikato Police Station where he allegedly confessed to murder and added that he threw away the body into Mucheke River close to Sundowns Lodge.
Magomana took the Police to the river and showed them the rock under which he hid the boy’s clothes. The boy had a deep cut on the neck and both hands were cut off although they were there at the scene.
Innocent Mbambo prosecuted.
