POLICE in Bulawayo have issued a prohibition notice barring the demonstrations which were set to be held by the opposition MDC led by Nelson Chamisa in that city.
In a notice, the Chief Superintendent for Bulawayo Province, Elizabeth Phiri, said she believed the the protests would disturb public order and peace in her district.
She also cited a case in which a police officer Cst Maune was stoned to death by protesters in the January protests as part of the reasons why she believes more violence was in store.
Also preferred among her reasons for barring the demo is that the office of the war veterans in Bulawayo were petrol-bombed last week, a situation she said indicated that peace was paramount in Bulawayo at the present moment.
The demo ban follows on the banning of a similar protest in Harare last Friday.
