An inmate at Mutimurefu maximum prison pricked a fellow inmate with a sharp shoe sewing needle before sod0mising him on different occasions.
The culprit, Elias Chikomo was serving five years for robbery and for his new offence, he was slapped with an additional 10 years.
Three years of his sentence were conditionally suspended, leaving him with an effective seven year jail term.
Chikomo initially denied the charge when he appeared before a Masvingo magistrate Dambudzo Malunga.
He was however convicted after a full trial which saw three witnesses, all inmates, giving overwhelming evidence that he se_xually abused a cell mate.
It is the State’s case that sometime this year, the accused approached Saul Rimwe (19) of Matimba Village, Chief Ndanga, Zaka who is also an inmate of Mutimurefu Prison in his cell and gave him some food.
Rimwe accepted the food in good faith thinking that Chikomo was just doing him a favour.
Later that day, Chikomo entered Rimwe’s cell and demanded that he pays for the food he ate by allowing him to sod0mise him.
Rimwe turned down the demand but Chikomo prickled him with a shoe needle and forcibly sod0mised him.
Three other cell mates were also threatened with unspecified action if they tried to stop Chikomo.
Chikomo repeated the offence the following day.
The matter came to light when Rimwe developed some stomach complications and he opened up to a medical personnel at Mutimurefu Prisons.
A report was made to Masvingo Rural Police Station leading to Chikomo’s arrest.
