Mugabe’s Rosary: How former President Robert Mugabe’s prayer saved a plane from crashing revealed

The secret prayerful life of the late former president Robert Mugabe has been revealed.

During the funeral proceedings at Rufaro Stadium yesterday, a Catholic nun, Sister Redemptor re-lived how she encountered the prayerful life of the late leader.

“I came across the late former president’s bodyguard Changara who told me that he wanted to be baptised because of what he had seen during the time he was with Robert Mugabe.

“Changara requested five rosaries from me before the time he died and I went to meet him at Mugabe’s aunt.

“He gave the rosaries to his wife and children, but I asked why he needed them since he was not a catholic.

“He said to me, sister, for the 14 years I had worked for the late president, we encountered very trying times where we thought the time of death has come, but president Mugabe would take out his Rosary and everything turned into calmness.

Sister Redemptor said Changara recalled the time when the plane was about to crash and the former president took his rosary and started praying.

“When the plane was swerving, we feared for our lives but in no time things turned to normalcy and we would gaze at the president sitting quietly with a rosary in his hands,” she said.

The Catholic nun said Changara revealed to him how everyone around the former president converted to Catholicism.

“I asked Changara if the former president forced you to do that and he said no.

“He said it is the way he is and how he lives that inspired them to become Catholics,” she said.

“Since the time I got to know the late president, he inspired me in a special way, that he was not ashamed of being branded a Catholic.

“He used to come for mass at the Cathedral whenever he had the free time and was so engulfed during the communion time.”

The nun said that from then she was inspired by how a man thought by some as evil would inspire people of that nature.

“I have learnt that, do not judge people because you do not know their real story behind closed doors,” she said.
