Army commanders have been challenged to continue exhibiting high levels of proficiency in the execution of their duties.
Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) Commander, Lieutenant General Edzai Chimonyo, who was guest of honour at the graduation ceremony held at the All Arms Battle School in Nyanga this Thursday, highlighted that a quality and patriotic command element remains the cornerstone of success for national armies.
Fifteen officers drawn from ZNA units have graduated after completing a Battalion Group Commanders’ Course to improve command and control abilities.
“History has taught us that an army can have modern equipment and greater numerical numbers but without adequately trained commanders, that army is bound to fail in its quest to perform its constitutional mandate. This course is vital in the development and enhancement of military knowledge and skills for senior officers at this level of command,” said Lieutenant General Chimonyo.
“The defense of this nation is entrusted to principled and patriotic officers endowed with integrity and professionalism gained through such interactive training as the one you have just completed. I, therefore, encourage you to embrace all the learning opportunities that the army offers and that the completion of this course should be a means towards greater achievements in the military career,” he added.
Course Director, Brigadier General George Chitsva said the course is important in promoting loyal, versatile and robust battalion commanders.
The Battalion Group Commanders’ Course, which is part of the ZNA broader training strategy to improve military proficiency, covered subjects that include leadership, infrastructure and equipment management, operations, room procedure, asymmetric warfare and employment of support arms and weapons in all phases of the war, among others.
