A BULAWAYO man could not stomach the thought of his lover “exchanging glances” with another man, lost his marbles before bashing the woman in full view of onlookers at a commuter omnibus terminus.
Prisca Moyo, a 33-year-old woman from Emganwini suburb’s crime, according to her boyfriend Israel Sibanda (33), was that she exchanged glances with a tout at a makeshift bus terminus along Herbert Chitepo Street and Sixth Avenue.
So incensed was the boyfriend that he bashed Moyo with a metal pipe until she sustained injuries on her ankles.
The assault happened in full view of onlookers at the busy terminus.
Narrating her ordeal at the Bulawayo Magistrate Court, Moyo said she was walking in the city centre with Sibanda when he suddenly accused her of looking at a tout in a manner that he did not approve.
The two had been shopping together earlier in the day.
“When we reached the terminus on Sixth Avenue, Sibanda suddenly got angry and accused me of being unfaithful because I had exchanged suspicious glances with a tout.
“He picked up a metal pipe that he found lying on the ground, at one time he dropped the pipe and started strangling me before continuing with the assault with his bare hands,” said Moyo in court.
The “jilted” Sibanda was, however, restrained by onlookers who threatened to meet out instant mob justice on him.
Moyo reported him to the police the next day.
The court was told that she sustained a swollen ankle, neck and severe chest pains.
He pleaded guilty to assault charges, blaming his actions on jealousy.
Magistrate Ulukile Muleya sentenced him to 105 hours at the Bulawayo Central Police Station.
