A MEMBER of the Zimbabwe National Army ran berserk and shot his wife to death and injured his mother-in-law before killing himself a kilometer away from the scene in Manyame Park yesterday.
Aaron Taurai Mlambo was reported to have visited his 25-year-old wife Evelyn Madawo at her mother Nomari Madawo’s place around midnight armed with an AK47 rifle. He proceeded to shoot his wife and her mother.
Nomari was rushed to Chitungwiza Central Hospital where she is receiving treatment.
Family spokesperson Pedzisai Kaguru told H-Metro that the two had separated a month ago following several episodes of domestic violence and Mlambo had threatened to kill Evelyn on Sunday at his work place.
“It is sad that my son in-law decided to end his issues with my daughter in such a horrific manner,” said Kaguru.
“The two separated a month ago and I have been requesting Mlambo to come and meet our family in order to solve the differences they had but to no avail.
“Ndakambofunga kuenda kunomuonera kubasa kwake ndichifunga kuti semunhu anga akangobvisa tsvakirai kuno iye ava nemwana anemakore matatu ainyara kutevera mudzimai wake.
“As a family we have been robbed a daughter who had a better vision to develop her family and ours.
“I used to read and view horrific stories and movies about people shooting others but today it has happened to us in a very frightening way.
“When I heard about the incident I became weak and caught fear of being shot since he had warned to kill my daughter and family.
“Evelyn told me that Mlambo visited her at her work place where they had an altercation,” said Kaguru.
Kaguru said Mlambo got hold of Evelyn’s mobile phone and ran away in town only to be caught by the mob after she shouted for help on Sunday.
“Evelyn had a misunderstanding with Mlambo during the day,” said Kaguru.
“She was threatened with death over the shouting she made when he ran away with her phone in town and was scared to meet him when he brought groceries at midnight.
“He came armed with a gun wrapped in a military sleeping bag and jumped over the precast wall before knocking the door.
“Upon seeing the maid he asked for Evelyn and when the maid opened the bedroom he followed her and shot Evelyn twice on her forehead. Another shot injured his mother in-law.
“Evelyn’s brother escaped by hiding under the bed for cover,” said Kaguru.
During the interview with Kaguru one of the neighbours arrived with news that she had seen an armed man lying in her field.
H-Metro visited the scene and Kaguru discovered that it was Mlambo’s body raising a suspicion that he shot himself to death through the mouth.
