EX-CONVICT and businessman Rolen Isheunesu Muchegwa better known by his moniker Uncle Roland is under probe for graft allegations in South Africa, Zim Morning Post can reveal.
Impeccable sources told Zim Morning Post that South Africa Revenue Services (Sars) is investigating Uncle Roland for tax evasion amid allegations that he is also involved in illicit fuel deals.
This has prompted authorities to freeze the businessman’s company accounts to pave way for investigations.
Uncle Rolen has previously served two years at Chikurubi Maximum Prison in Harare after a botched marijuana deal that also cost him his job at a top insurance company.
“Rolen’s accounts were frozen along with another South African based Zimbabwean businessman.
“Sars allege that he is not paying tax and he is involved in dirty fuel deals wherein he buys petrol in cheaper areas like Kwazulu Natal province after misrepresentation of export and sell it at a profit in Limpopo province,” said our source.
Our source revealed that he also uses the same modus operandi to fleece the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) through misrepresenting that fuel imported from South Africa is in transit and destined to Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), but eventually offload the fuel in Harare.
“It’s a clique, him (Uncle Rolen) and associates .
‘They import cheaper fuel from South Africa and lie that its in transit to DRC but offload it in Zimbabwe and feed the black market for ridiculous profits.
“The tanker then proceeds to DRC filled with water ,because the weigh bridge cannot dictate the type of liquid but quantity of contents, so this exercise legitimises the rot,” added our source.
Efforts to get comment from Uncle Roland proved fruitless as his mobile phone went on voice mail.
Phone calls made to the Sars contact number provided on their official website did not go through at the time of writing.
It is believed that South African authorities were compelled to institute a lifestyle audit on Uncle Roland after his seemingly extravagant and luxurious lifestyle went viral on social media.
He has shaken Southern Africa with images of him posing with beautiful multi-racial women about town.
A video of him throwing United States dollar bills at Pablos night club in Harare also went viral.
In Sandton, Joburg , he is also known to settle huge bills without a twitch.
He is believed to be in possession of seven passports from different African countries and is off the hook because he is multi-lingual.
The 51-year-old businessman is a ‘person of interest’ and fled the country to South Africa in 2015 when a warrant of arrest was issued against him.
Now that SA authorities after him, he is in a catch 22 situation and it appears he has been domiciled in Harare lately as he has been spotted ‘living lavida loca’ in the big city lights.
This reporter spotted him at Pablos last Friday in the company of a fre spirited belle, and as per tradition, he was on his ‘A’ game of spending money and drinking alcohol like its water!
When he skipped the country, Uncle Roland was facing assault charges when he violently attacked the late top lawyer Eddie Jori accusing him of having a r0mantic affair with his ex-wife Michelle Kawome.
He also savagely attacked Michelle at his favourite watering hole ,Pablos nightclub in Borrowdale leaving her hospitalised.
“Roland is a violent man, he assaulted Michelle and he was also in the habit of beating up anyone he suspected of making moves on Michelle,” said one of his friends who declined to be named.
In 2015, the late Jori opened up to this reporter that Uncle Roland was making his life ‘hell on earth’ by constant threats and physical attacks.
He revealed that at one time he stalked him to his house and beat him up by the gate and he was also causing problems at his workplace at Wintertons Legal Practitioners.
Uncle Roland was summoned to appear in court but he absconded court resulting in a warrant of arrest being issued against him before he fled the country.
Jori died in a car accident along Second Street Extension and circumstances surrounding the cause remain a mystery.
However, he is believed to have been in speed chase with Michelle, according to sources.
Hate him or love him, Uncle Roland has shaken Southern Africa and is the king of razzmatazz.
He joins the league of other rich Southern Africa ex-cons like Kenny ‘Sushi King Kunene and Gayton Mckenzie.
