SELF-PROCLAIMED Zanu-PF strategist Acie Lumumba has waded into the court battle between Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and his estranged wife Marry Mubaiwa, warning the Retired Army General that he had crossed the line in dealing with his marital issues.
Mubaiwa is in remand prison at the Chikurubi Maximum Security prison awaiting her bail application. This follows her arrest on 14th December on multiple charges of fraud, misrepresentation and flouting the country’s foreign currency exchange control regulations.
She also faces an additional charge of attempting to murder her husband while he was bedridden in a private medical facility in South Africa in July.
Writing on social media, Lumumba suggested that the charges against Marry are trumped up and meant to punish her for wanting out of her 8 year marriage to the powerful securocrat.
“Today I choose to pray for Mary. I don’t know much, jokes… I do,” Lumumba said. “But I don’t believe any woman must be treated this way by munhu wake. Spare a thought and prayer for her and her children.
“No matter how much you may not like her, zvikuita General hazvina kunaka. We all get the point!”
Lumumba, who claims to have sources and connections in the country’s top military brass, brags that he really knows the bone of contention between the couple and chided Vice President Chiwenga for going overboard in dealing with his marital issues.
Marry denies the charges. The State indicated that if convicted, she faces staying in jail until at least the year 2055.
