One shot dead as security guard opens fire after 60 armed MaShurugwi pounced on mine in Battlefields

A Security guard manning a mine today in Battlefields, Kadoma has reportedly shot a 27-year-old man who is feared dead.

This publication has learnt the incident occurred when a gang of 60 armed illegal miners invaded the mine.

3 guards were manning the premises when they told the miners to leave and they were met with resistance.

Police report that the deceased was armed and threatening the guards when they decided to open fire,

“the deceased, armed with an axe and a knife menacingly charged towards one of the guards intending to disarm him, he was shot by one of the guards who realised that his colleague’s life was in danger. The rest of the illegal miners fled from the scene after the incident,” a police report says.

The incident is almost similar to the one where a person believed to be a soldier, was shot dead in Kadoma.

“Kudakwashe Hoko was shot and killed by private security guards at Goodhope which is part of Brompton Mine in Kadoma, where gold gangs recently disarmed and brutally killed a police officer,” Zimlive reported.

Mashurugwi, as they are notoriously known, are often armed and dangerous and the police have strongly warned against challenging authority.

“Violence of any form will not be tolerated and like-minded elements are warned that the wrath of the law will be severely applied”, police warned.
