MuShurugwi dies after being heavily bashed by members of the public


A SUSPECTED machete wielding man was fatally assaulted by members of the public and later died on his way to hospital.

Edmore Kaitano suspected to have been part of the four-member gang who went on a rampage robbing a shop at Jochoma village, setting five huts on fire and assaulting several villagers using machetes and a spear, died on way to Sanyati Baptist Hospital.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident saying three of the other suspects have been arrested.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police arrested Takesure Mashonga Gasura, George Ncube and Pritchard Banda for robbery and malicious damage to property at Kenzamba in Chinhoyi,” said Ass Comm Nyathi.

“Banda is currently hospitalised after having been shot on the knee while resisting arrest and another suspect Kaitano was apprehended and fatally assaulted by members of the public.

“He later died.

“Police are warning machete gangs that they only have themselves to blame should they continue to harass and terrorise innocent members of the public.

“Police would like to assure the public that we are firm on the ground to deal with all criminal elements,” said Ass Comm Nyathi.

Meanwhile, police have intensified the maintenance of law and order at Jumbo area in Mazowe and members of the public are advised that Jumbo Mine and its environs are now a no go area with immediate effect.
