So Sad: Girl (10) killed, burnt and dumped in rubbish bin in Namibia, 3 Zimbabweans in hot soup

Namibia police yesterday arrested three Zimbabwean suspects in connection with the murder and burning of a 10-year-old girl in Windhoek.

The body of the girl was discovered between early Saturday morning, burnt beyond recognition in a garbage skip in Oievaarstraat, Windhoek North.

In a statement, police deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi said two of the suspects are a married couple while the third suspect is believed to be the girl’s mother. The couple was identified using video footage showing them dragging a wheelie bin suspected to have contained the body of the child at 2100hrs on Friday.

The couple then went on the run but was arrested yesterday near Otjiwarongo.

Oievaarstraat residents yesterday told The Namibian newspaper they woke up to a pungent smell on Saturday that they later discovered was from the burnt body of a young girl dumped in a rubbish skip. The body was burnt beyond recognition.

Police said a retired teacher who was walking to a nearby shop discovered the body.

A resident, who declined to provide his name, but who lives next to the rubbish skip, said he arrived home Friday evening and noticed two people pulling what he thought was rubbish to the skip. He said he assumed they were residents from the neighbourhood but could not make out their faces.
