JUST IN: End of the road for MaShurugwi

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has directed the country’s security forces to clear up the machete-wielding gang menace in the shortest possible time.

Addressing the first Cabinet Decisions Matrix for the year yesterday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said the President was concerned that the gangs had unleashed terror and disturbed peace in communities, with ordinary people in gold-rich parts of the country now living on fear.

“The security sector is bided to urgently bring to an end the current scourge of violence by the unruly machete wielding gangs and malcontents,” Mutsvangwa said.

The gangs have been unleashing terror in mining areas such as Zhombe, Kwekwe, Kadoma, Gokwe, Gwanda and Chegutu, among others.

They have killed several people, rap_ed, robbed and and injured many others while stealing cash, property and gold in the process.

Police have arrested over 2 300 people in mining areas for offences ranging from carrying dangerous weapons to illegal mining activities.
