MDC-T president Thokozani Khupe has sent four top party officials packing from the opposition party on charges that they were plotting against her while others are accused of recruiting members for Douglas Mwonzora’s soon-to-be launched political project.
Zimbabwe Voice is reliably informed that those in the firing line include the party’s youth assembly leader Isabel Mwonzora, secretary-general Nickson Nyikadzino, legislator Priscilla Misihairambwi-Mushonga and organising secretary Yvonne Musarurwa.
They all woke up on Thursday morning to discover they had been kicked out of the party’s WhatsApp group for the executive.
Although the for formalities to kick the quartet out are yet to be finalized, the four are as good as gone following manouvres already activated by the party’s provincial leaders to boot the four out.
“Priscilla Misihairambwi-Mushonga was paying people to give Khupe a vote of no confidence so that she (Priscilla) takes over the party,” a source told Zimbabwe Voice.
“To give the expulsion a veneer of having been procedural, the MDC-T Provincial Chairpersons are in the process of writing to the national chair demanding the expulsion of Yvonne Musarurwa, Isabel Mwonzora and Nickson Nyikadzino,” said the source.
“You will recall that Chamisa’s camp, in particular deputy spokesperson Luke Tamborinyoka, have been acting jittery about the impending Supreme Court ruling all week after having been fed information by someone believed to be inside the MDC-T to the effect that the Supreme Court ruling will be in favour of Khupe to take over control of the Harvest House in Harare where Chamisa’s party is based.”
All this week, Tamborinyoka has been pre-empting the Supreme Court ruling, giving away the impression that the top officials inside Chamisa’s party are aware they will lose the Supreme Court case to Khupe.
Even MDC Alliance supporters have read the tone in Tamborinyoka’a tweets of late and have pushed him to explain what was happening behind the scenes, but he hasn’t been forthcoming.
The source continued: “Yvonne is being accused of being that spy and mole in the party who has been dealing with the Chamisa outfit to destroy Khupe.
“Most members in Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East and Manicaland provinces crossed over to the opposition LEAD formed by Linda Masarira and Musarurwa has been accused of nepotism and destroying the party from within,” said the source.
Masarira was MDC-T national spokesperson between the April 2018 congress up to the same month last month, before Khupe fired her.
She went on to launch the LEAD months after leaving, and blamed tribalism as the main reason she was pushed out of the MDC-T.
The sources further said Isabel (Bella) is being accused of recruiting for her father Douglas Mwonzora’s supposed new party which is yet to be launched, “but will be set up soon.”
Bella also stands accused of destroying MDC-T structures in Masvingo.
