Let’s allow the law to take its course, says singer Yvonne Chaka Chaka as son gets arrested

LEGENDARY singer Yvonne Chaka Chaka’s son Themba spoiled the vibe on her birthday celebration when he got arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend at their Fourways home, north of Jozi.

Nkateko Khoza, opened a case of common assault at the Douglasdale Police Station on Tuesday, a day before Yvonne’s birthday, accusing her sweetheart, Themba of manhandling her after an altercation ensued over her cellphone.

When called for comment, Nkateko refused to talk about the matter, saying she had no comment during a telephonic conversation.

According to a police statement seen by the SunTeam, Themba allegedly took her phone and refused to return it, she then grabbed it from him and locked herself in their bedroom where he followed her.

“The complainant alleged that on the above date and time she was with the family, and her boyfriend took her cellphone and started phoning. She asked for her phone back but he refused and she grabbed it from him. She locked herself in their bedroom. Her boyfriend, Themba Mhinga, banged the door and kicked it. He jumped through the window to come inside and grabbed her cellphone and also grabbed her hand. Case opened for further investigation. Suspect was arrested and detained at Douglasdale SAPS,” read the statement.

Said Yvonne “I don’t condone any form of violence against women. It’s despicable. As a mum, I brought up my sons to respect and honour women. Having said that, let’s allow the law to take its course.

“Lastly, Ms Khoza was never assaulted.”
