‘MDC T leader Thokozani Khupe’s ‘MaShurugwi’ cause havoc at Harvest House’

Opposition MDC led by Nelson Chamisa has alleged that some “machete-wielding thugs” belonging to Thokozani Khupe’s MDC-T attempted to take over Morgan Tsvangirai House formerly known as Harvest House which is the MDC’s headquarters.

The alleged development was announced by the party on Twitter this Wednesday. The tweet read:

“Breaking News…In a bid to take over our HQ, machete-wielding thugs from a party fronting for Zanu have attempted to unlock security doors at the entrance of our MDC HQ the Morgan Tsvangirai House in #Harare. More details to follow…”

This comes a day after the Supreme Court ruled that Khupe was the legitimate leader of the MDC and that the party has to go to Congress to choose a leader as per the party’s constitution.

There have been power struggles within the party since 2018 when the party’s founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s health rapidly deteriorated.

The party’s bigwigs including Chamisa and Khupe fought each other in an endeavour to replace the former Prime Minister at the party’s upper echelons of power.
