IN an ugly case of gender based violence, a 32-year-old Sakubva man allegedly assaulted his wife for requesting for money to buy vegetables before going on to destroy household property worth more than $6 000.
Bonface Ndamuka appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Notebulgah Muchineripi, facing charges of domestic violence and malicious damage to property.
He was remanded out of custody on $1 000 bail and will be back in the dock on June 12.
Mr Brian Goto prosecuted.
Mr Goto said on April 27 at around 5pm, Tryphyn Nyambiya, who is married to Ndamuka, asked the latter for some money to buy vegetables.
Ndamuka told her that he did not have the money. However, a misunderstanding arose.
Ndamuka allegedly grabbed Nyambiya by the collar and threw a pushing tray on her.
He went on destroy their kitchen unit, a television stand, dinner plates, water glasses, cups, kitchen chairs, a two-plate stove and a DVD player.
A police report was made, thereby leading to his arrest.
