A 54-YEAR-OLD man from Zvishavane has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for rap_ing his seven-year-old niece. Two years were, however, suspended from his sentence by Gweru regional magistrate Phathekile Msipa on condition he does not commit a similar offence in the next five years.
The man rap_ed his Grade Three niece four times in 2017.
The court heard that in 2017, the minor was living at her grandmother’s homestead. Each time she passed through her uncle’s homestead from school, he would ask her to return after taking off her uniform. When she came back the accused’s wife and son would go away on errands leaving the minor alone with her uncle, who would then rap_e her.
On one occasion the girl went to the uncle’s house and her brother was later sent to look for her. When her brother got to the uncle’s house, he peeped through the window and saw her being rap_ed by the uncle.
Talent Tadenyika prosecuted in the case.
