A self-confessed thigh vendor from Shurugwi has appeared in court for dumping her newly-born baby into a Blair toilet.
Netsai Ngazimbi (24)) of Poshai Village under Chief Nhema shocked the court when she confessed that she dumped the baby as it was going to distract her in soliciting for clients.
She appeared before Shurugwi magistrate Sithabile Zungula facing charges of infanticide and concealing child birth and she pleaded guilty.
In her defence, she told the court that she was not financially stable to look after the baby.
“I am a se_x worker and l don’t earn much. As a result, l had to get rid of the baby because keeping the baby meant that l would have to stay home and not go to work.
“As it is, l do not have food to feed myself so I wasn’t going to afford to buy clothes, food and medication for the baby,” she said.
Magistrate Zungula remanded her in custody.
Circumstances surrounding the matter are that on April 25, at a local business centre in Chachacha, Ngazimbi gave birth and wrapped the baby in a cloth. She then proceeded to the toilet and threw the baby in and fled from the scene.
A fellow colleague heard the baby crying and alerted the police. The baby was retrieved from the toilet but died upon admission at a hospital.
An interrogation was conducted and it was established that the baby belonged to the accused leading to her arrest.
