Four people died on the spot while five others were seriously injured after a Toyota Wish vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road and rolled several times before landing on its wheels just outside Gweru Wednesday afternoon.
The driver of the Toyota Wish is among the people who died in the accident which occurred at the 322-kilometre peg near Treetops Shopping Centre.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident and said 11 people were boarding the vehicle when the accident occurred at around 1500hrs.
He said his office is yet to get a full report of the accident.
However, an eyewitness who refused to be named indicated that the driver of the vehicle which was heading to Bulawayo from Gweru lost control of the car which eventually rolled several times killing and injuring people on board.
He said the vehicle moved for approximately sixty metres in the bush after veering off the road before it started rolling.
The injured were ferried to Gweru general hospital for medical attention.
Names of the deceased will be released once their next of kin have been advised.
