AT LEAST fifteen (15) opposition legislators have attended today’s Parliamentary sitting defying a directive by the MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa to boycott parliament in solidarity with four of their colleagues who were recalled last month by a rival camp led by Thokozani Khupe.
Some of the legislators in attendance during Tuesday’s sitting are Vincent Tsvangirai, Tapiwa Mashakada, Dorcas Sibanda, Joyce Makonya, Peter Moyo, Wesley Sansole, Memory Mbondiya and Dingilizwe Tshuma.
Reinstated MDC Secretary-General Douglas Mwonzora had warned that the party expected elected officials to take Parliament business seriously as the nation is in the middle of a pandemic and needed the legislative arm to be fully functional.
The MDC chairperson Morgen Komichi had also warned that while the party had no appetite to recall wayward MPs, the power to recall now lies with acting President Thokozani Khupe as confirmed by the Supreme Court ruling of 31st March.
