JUST IN: 2 killed in tragic road accidents


TWO minors died on the spot while one was severely injured in two separate hit and run accidents that occurred in Mvurwi and Mt Darwin this Monday.

Zimbabwe Republic Police Mashonaland Central Spokesperson, Inspector Milton Mundembe confirmed the incidents.

Two juveniles, including a 15-year-old were knocked down near the 47 km peg along the Centenary to Mazowe highway on Monday evening.

One of the teenagers died on the spot while the other is in a critical condition at Mvurwi hospital.

In the other incident, a 4-year-old boy from Mt Darwin died on the spot after when he was hit by a speeding vehicle.

According to the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ), over US$ 460 million is spent annually on road traffic accidents, with an average of 40,000 accidents being recorded annually.

At least 15,000 people are injured and almost 2,000 killed every year in road traffic accidents, says the TSCZ.

Road traffic accidents are mostly attributed to human error, including speeding, misjudgement, drinking and driving and recklessness.
