President ED Mnangagwa

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has warned the organisers of illegal demonstrations being planned by the opposition and the country’s detractors that security services will be on high alert to respond to any mischief.

Speaking at the 342nd ZANU Politburo session, President Emmerson Mnangagwa who is also the First Secretary of the ruling party said the planned insurrection of July 31 2020 is connected to the violence and destabilisation that opposition elements have fomented since 2018, including the August 2018 violence and the violent disturbances of January 2019 which led to the loss of lives.

Emboldened and inspired by the upcoming Heroes Day commemorations, President Mnangagwa said Zanu PF as the people’s party, will never allow people to be put in harm’s way.

“It must never be in doubt that the objective of these rogue Zimbabweans acting as in cahoots with foreign appendages, supporters, and financiers to stage an insurrection to overthrow our democratically elected Government,” he said.

President Mnangagwa added that in view of the Covid-19 pandemic, the planned demonstrations are a threat to the safety and security of the people and their right to life

“We will equally defend our Independence and sovereignty to the letter and not betray the fallen heroes and heroines who paid the supreme sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today.

“I want to warn the organisers of this ill-fated demonstrations that our security services will be vigilant and on high alert to appropriately respond to their shenanigans.”

The Second Republic continues to make notable strides in fulfilling electoral promises and various resolutions of the party congresses and conferences.

“All sectors of our economy are accelerating the implementation of programmes to improve the livelihood of our people as we gear towards the achievement of an upper middle income society by 2030,” said the President

“In particular, the agriculture Recovery plan is now underway. The inputs for the 2020/2021 agriculture season have been sourced and will be delivered timely. In the mining sector, I recently toured Hwange District to appreciate the coal mining projects underway in that area. These will have far reaching impact on our economy and will see us achieving energy self sufficiency by 2023. It is envisaged that the projects will result in our country being a net exporter of energy. The chrome , iron and steel, fertiliser and tourism industries are also set to benefit.”

The president also commended the party leadership and respective departments for the visibility and clarity which regards to articulating its policies and position

The president also appreciated the support given by the Communist Party of China and the Chinese Government’s commitment to strengthening economic cooperation as seen through their massive investments in the mining sector.
