The search for Mbuya Masciline Chawira Kudezera (71) who went missing from Rujeko in Masvingo last month came to an end on Tuesday after her body was discovered in an advanced state of decomposition along Shakashe River.
She was buried ON Friday at Tokwe Resettlement in Chitora.
The body had a missing right hand and a deep cut in the head and her family is treating it as murder.
Kudezera was diabetic and she would be confused and lose her memory at times. Her body was discovered by a passerby.
She disappeared on July 11, 2020 and her family appealed for information for her whereabouts.
Efforts to get a comment from the Police were futile.
The deceased’s daughter, Theresa Mazana confirmed the development to The Mirror.
She said that the family is treating the case as murder although Police dismissed the possibility of conducting a postmortem because of the body’s state of decomposition.
“Our mother’s body was discovered in Shakashe River on Tuesday after she went missing in July.
As a family we are treating the case as murder but Police said it is difficult to conduct a postmortem.
Her right hand was missing and her skull was hit by a hard object.
“Members of a church nearby where the body was found said they heard a loud voice crying out for help during the night of July 11, 2020, the day she went missing. Her body was discovered floating in the river by a woman who was walking along the river bank,” said Madzana.
