A man and a woman were arrested by police in Chipinge on Monday after they were found in possession of 15kgs of dagga worth US$14 000 which they smuggled from Mozambique.
Criminal Investigations Department (CID) spokesperson for Chipinge district Vincent Chikuvadze confirmed the arrest of Ruwo Sarudzai (43) and Bothwell Gobiye by detectives at a roadblock along Birchenough Bridge – Mount Selinda road on Monday.
Chikuvadze told Chipinge Times that 21 people were arrested this month in Chipinge for dealing in dangerous drugs which are being smuggled from Mozambique. He urged the people to report such cases to police since drugs are harmful to society.
“Two people a male and a female were arrested during a stop and search operation at a roadblock at Tsuro Farm along Birchenough Bridge – Mt Selinda road on Monday. The two who confirmed smuggling the dagga from Mozambique heading to Chimanimani in a Toyota Noah vehicle were ordered to open their luggage and Ruwo was found in possession of 14,415 grams of dagga while her male counterpart Gobiye was found with 665 grams. The drugs are worth US$14 000.
“Cases of drugs in Chipinge are on the increase with 21 people arrested this month only. We have since opened a whatsapp number 0787427298 and we appeal to the public to report all cases of drugs using that number. As police we warn the public not to be involved in such criminal activities because drugs are harmful to the society” said Chikuvadze.
