A team has been deployed to investigate and track down a mysterious creature that has been terrorising the Makwe community in Gwanda.
A team comprising members from the Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority, Veterinary Services Department and Gwanda Rural District Council’s Natural Resources Department has been dispatched to Makwe area to investigate and track down a mysterious creature that has wreaked havoc in the community.
Speaking to ZBC News after meeting communal farmers, Gwanda Rural District Council Natural Resources Management Officer, Mr Sijabuliso Masango, said they “are equally worried about the issue and urged the community remain calm as investigations are now underway.”
“This is a prime goat rearing area and goats are good income for them and its understandable for them to become impatient, but we advise them to be patient in the meantime as we work to bring the issue to closure,” he said.
Zimparks officials referred all questions to the authority’s spokesperson, Mr Tinashe Farawo, whose phone was not reachable.
With villagers becoming impatient, local councillor, Ms Rachel Ncube expressed they are grateful that the authorities have reacted to their plea and hope the mysterious creature will be captured before human lives are lost.
“We have given parks the description of the animal and we now hope that they will help us capture the animal. We have realized that we may use the traditional means whilst the technical departments know the animal so we will leave both options open,” she said.
The number of goats lost has risen to 75, while two donkeys and an equal number of pigs have also been killed by the blood sucking creature.
